Minimum regulation standards

The Chamber of Deputies approved a bill regulating online gambling to prevent gambling addiction, especially among minors. It prohibits access to those under 18, restricts advertising in media outlets and through influencers, and eliminates sports sponsorships. It also limits payment methods to debit cards and virtual wallets with available funds. The bill provides for harsher penalties and educational workshops to raise awareness about the risks.

Preliminary approval

A National Law must contemplate these points:

Online gaming
  • Compliance with the ban on gambling for persons under 18 years.

  • Prompt administrative and judicial blocking of illegal platforms where young people gamble.

  • Strictly regulate advertising, with effective fines and sanctions, including influencers.

  • Control of digital wallets and platforms where potential charges and payments are generated.

The role of the State is fundamental to unifying a federal strategy that includes regulation, prohibition, sanctions, and awareness-raising about the risks of illegal online gambling among teenagers.
